250 correct characters in 30 seconds corresponds to 100 WPM under the five-character convention, before considering any incorrect extra characters in accuracy.
Pasting is disabled for the test. Keyboard layout, language, autocorrect and device type can still affect results, so compare like with like.
Typing tests look simple because the output is a single WPM number. The useful interpretation is two-dimensional: how quickly you produced text and how much correction or error was required to do it.
Many typing tests normalize text into “words” of five characters so different passages can be compared more consistently. That is a convention, not a claim that every real word contains five letters.
A raw burst of fast keystrokes is not effective typing if the output is wrong. For real work, a slightly lower WPM with high accuracy is usually more useful than a flashy score full of mistakes.
Punctuation, capital letters, numbers, unfamiliar words and sentence structure can all change difficulty. Compare scores from similar test formats rather than treating every typing test as identical.
If accuracy collapses, slow down until clean keystrokes become automatic. If accuracy is already high, short bursts and deliberate rhythm work can help raise speed without sacrificing control.

A short test is intentionally punchy. It can show peak pace, but it will not perfectly predict how fast you can write accurately for an hour of work.
